The Benefits of Working from Home
The Benefits of Working from Home
Remote work, as we've long known, has a slew of benefits for employees. We've compiled a list of the best of the best benefits of working from home, some you may already be aware of, and others that will help you see the impact of remote work on employers, employees, the economy, and the environment even more clearly.
Better Work-Life Balance
Many remote jobs also come with flexible schedules, allowing employees to start and end their days whenever they want, as long as their work is completed and produces positive results. When it comes to attending to the needs of your personal life, having control over your work schedule can be extremely beneficial.
Dropping kids off at school, running errands, going to an online fitness class in the morning, or being at home for a contractor are all tasks that are easier to balance when you work from home.
Increased Productivity and Performance
Working from home usually means fewer interruptions, less office politics, a lower level of noise, and fewer (or more productive) meetings. When you factor in the lack of a commute, remote workers typically have more time and fewer distractions, resulting in higher productivity a major benefit of working from home for both employees and employers.
When done correctly, remote work allows employees and businesses to focus on what matters most: results. Unfortunately, the workplace can produce "false positives," which can lead to bias and favoritism. After all, while arriving early and leaving late may appear to be more work, actual performance is a far better indicator of productivity.
In addition, according to FlexJobs' 2020 survey, workers who believed they would be more productive working from home were actually more productive when working remotely.
During the pandemic, just over half of respondents (51%) said they are more productive working from home. When asked why they were more productive, many said it was because of fewer interruptions and quieter work environments.
Improved Inclusivity
Companies can embrace diversity and inclusion by hiring people from a variety of socioeconomic, geographic, and cultural backgrounds and perspectives, which can be difficult to achieve when recruiting is limited to a specific location that not everyone wants to live near or can afford.
Companies choose to support diversity, community, and family by hiring employees who can work from home in the communities where they feel most comfortable and supported.
People with disabilities or caregivers who require a flexible schedule may find it difficult to find steady employment at an onsite job, but remote work allows them to pursue their career goals without having to worry about commuting back and forth to an office. It also allows employees to go to doctor's appointments and other healthcare appointments as needed.
Conclusion
Though the pandemic may have been the catalyst for remote work for many millions of employees around the world, it’s far from the only reason to work from home. Indeed, the benefits of working from home impact so many things on a global scale that it’s sure to become the best path forward.
